R.WOLLBOLDT /PROJECT FIT SOWETO FUNDRAISER
My name is Richard and I am from Cape Town, South Africa. Growing up I was a very sporty kid. I played rugby, cricket, soccer and athletes. I found CrossFit® at the age of 17 when looking for motivational speeches on YouTube. Although I had no idea what it was, I knew I wanted to do it. In 2015 I joined Cape CrossFit to be a competitive athlete and the rest is history.
I have represented Cape CrossFit at both Regionals and the CrossFit® Games. I have regularly competed in local competitions like FICT, Last Man Standing, UWS and Battle of The Beasts.
My goal is to compete at FICT in May this year. Unfortunately, I personally do not have the finances to cover the trip home. I have started a GoFundMe account to help cover the costs of competing. CrossFit® has this unique ability to change peoples’ lives. I know personally I would not be where I am today without it.
I believe in the power of giving back and I’d like to use this fundraiser to help encourage sports in underprivileged communities. Therefore 50% of all funds donated above $2000 and any prize money won will be donated to charity.
The charity I have decided to work with is ProjectFit Soweto. Soweto is a township created by the former Apartheid Government to enforce racial separation during the Apartheid regime. This horrendous, unfair system has created disparity and poverty beyond belief. ProjectFit Soweto brings hope to the children of Soweto. They empower the youth of Soweto to live a healthy and active life style through the sport of CrossFit®.
